Julia is a PhD student at King’s College London, researching the European Space Agency’s “SkinSuit” that has been designed to impart axial body loading in order to help protect the health of astronauts from prolonged microgravity exposure. The Skinsuit may maintain the integrity of many physiological systems and it is her job to attempt an understanding of changes to our energy expenditure or muscle activity that may result from wearing it during exercise. She also teaches exercise classes and pursues outreach activities aimed at encouraging young females to pursue the learning of STEM subjects.
