Shama Rahman

Shama is a sitar-player, singer/songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and actress. She is also completing a PhD in neuroscience at Imperial College, where she studies how music affects the brain, and the different neural patterns we see when musicians are improvising or playing from sight music. She joined us at the Secret Garden Party for Improvisation & Inspiration, in which we hooked two professional pianists up to EEG brainwave reading equipment to see what happened in their brains when they sight-read a piece of music, were asked to interpret the composition, or improvised.
