Project Ocean: Coral Costumes
June 12, 2011 by Zoe
Costumier Anna Cocciadiferro joined us to display these immaculate and interactive Coral Costumes, inspired by coral biology and designed in collaboration with the Coral Reef Research Unit at the University of Essex.
The hat, suspended inside a plastic chamber, was devised to illustrate the symbiotic relationship between coral and their colourful zooxanthellae, which are symbolized by confetti.
Two other pieces represent soft, mobile coral and the hard skeletons of staghorn coral.
Project Ocean is a month of activities hosted by Selfridges in partnership with the Zoological Society of London and 20 conservation and environmental NGOs.
