SxSW Panel Picker: Science, Society, & Ethics in a Post-truth World
August 2, 2017 by KyleMarian
Help bring our discussion to SxSW 2018. SxSW Panel Picker opens to community voting Aug 7-25. Vote for us here.
What is SxSW Panel Picker?
The PanelPicker is SxSW’s programming team’s online process that allows the SXSW community to have a significant voice in programming SXSW EDU, and SXSW conference activities (presentations, panels, discussions, demonstrations, etc.)
It encourages the community to enter proposals for daytime conference programming for all SXSW events. And also allows the community to browse all of these ideas, leave comments, and vote for what they think are the best fit.
With your help, we can bring this topical discussion to the ever-growing SxSW community.
Science communication is important, but can be convoluted to non-scientists. In the wake of fake news and information wars, more suspicion around science (e.g., vaccines) and denial (e.g., climate change) has emerged, resulting in fear and mistrust. Together, we can create a brighter future where science is used equitably and ethically; where communities see themselves and their values reflected in the scientific community, and there is no political capital in diminishing the value in scientific inquiry.
