Freudian Cocktails

Created for the Wellcome Trust and BFI Screenwriting Fellowship awards party in London, our Freudian Cocktails presented a playful take on Sigmund Freud’s structural model of the psyche – the theoretical concepts of ‘id’, ‘ego’ and ‘super-ego’ that Freud devised to describe the interactions of the human mind.

Actors playing the characters of Sigmund Freud, Anna Freud (Sigmund’s daughter), Carl Jung (Freud’s disciple and colleague) and Karen Horney (a feminist psychoanalyst and contemporary of Freud) welcomed over 500 guests from the world of film and television to an evening of entertainment on the theme of ‘know thyself’.

Guests were then invited to choose from a menu of bespoke cocktails – inspired by the lustful id, rational ego and self-critical super-ego – and offered a consultation with our roster of famous figures from the history of psychoanalysis to discover what their choice of drink revealed about their state of mind.
