June 2014, Glastonbury Festival
One size fits all may work for silly hats and plastic ponchos, but when it comes to sexuality, diversity reigns supreme. At Glastonbury Festival in 2014 we celebrated humanity’s glorious rainbow at ‘Heavenly Nipples’, an upmarket emporium of sexual treats created in collaboration with designer Ben Kearns and artist Jamie McCartney.
Upon entering Heavenly Nipples, Glastonbury’s revellers were treated to a one-on-one consultation session with our beauty technicians, and invited to tweak their physique to suit every need. Audiences were invited to browse a range of accessories inspired by the ‘latest trends’ in sexual enhancement. They could acquire a third nipple, re-colour their anus, pimp their pubic hair, and even sample a chimpanzee testicle graft.
To celebrate the fact that the human body comes in a range of shapes and sizes, two spectacular panels from artist Jamie McCartney’s Great Wall of Vagina were presented in the venue. McCartney also set up scanning equipment and invited the audience to donate an image of their anatomy, resulting in a new composite artwork.
In addition to their customer service duties, our team of actors portrayed history’s sexologists, from Beverley Whipple to Alfred Kinsey, asking the audience a list of questions that were complied with researchers from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (NATSAL) – one of the world’s largest scientific studies of sexual behaviour.
Heavenly Nipples ran day and night in the Heaven Field of Shangri-La, the raucous ‘naughty corner’ of Britain’s largest music festival, and attracted 2,000 visitors over four days.
